Its flight speed reaches 120 km/h, with a flight duration of over three hours. The equipment is designed for aerial monitoring of natural and man-made fire hotspots and flood-prone areas, as well as for supporting and coordinating the actions of rescue teams, aerial photography for the creation of orthophoto maps, and for relaying voice messages during emergency alerts. The agency also emphasises the system’s significant advantage over helicopter-based technology.

«The main difference is greater power and flight range, which allows specialists to increase the radius of the surveyed area several times per sortie. The UAV transmits video images and coordinates up to 100 kilometres from the operator in real-time, maintaining a stable connection. In the harsh northern climate, vast and sparsely populated areas, where rapid response can save lives, such technologies are particularly in demand,» noted Zergent Ozayev, head of the drone aviation systems application group of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Magadan Region.

Instructors from the ZALA specialised training centre held a series of theoretical sessions for operational services and helped consolidate the acquired knowledge in practice, focusing on the application of UAVs in spring-summer conditions. The main tasks include monitoring the territories of active volcanoes, flood situations, and reconnaissance of possible wildfire locations.

The capabilities of ZALA ZARYA complexes allow for real-time tracking and adjustment of rescue units' and mobile search groups' actions at a distance of up to 50 km. The UAVs can be equipped with a wide range of payloads: from thermal imagers and warning systems to radiometric equipment, which allows for effective resolution of the entire spectrum of tasks facing the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The conducted UTPs became an important stage in the preparation of personnel for working with advanced technologies, where speed of reaction and accuracy are crucial.

The department notes that under the influence of positive temperatures on Lake Baikal, processes of dynamic crack formation and open water areas have become more active. To promptly cover the territory, the ZALA ZARYA-1M UAV was involved in monitoring. The complex is equipped with an HD camera and a thermal imager, which allows it to operate around the clock, including in difficult weather conditions such as rain and fog. The unmanned complex can stay airborne for up to 230 minutes, patrolling an area within a 50-kilometre radius.

«With its help, we identify places where people drive onto the ice without authorisation, and we take photos and videos of violations committed by drivers who have driven into the water area outside of designated ice crossings. This material is then forwarded to the relevant authorities to bring the citizens to administrative responsibility. Interdepartmental teams approach those who try to cover their vehicle registration plates in any way using amphibious boats, and officers draw up reports,» emphasised Andrei Karepov, head of the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels Centre of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Irkutsk Region.

Patrol routes have been expanded to include traditionally popular destinations with high tourist traffic and ice fishing spots on Lake Baikal.

As explained by EMERCOM representatives, the modular design of UAVs allows them to be adapted to a wide range of tasks. In addition to standard video recording, ZALA ZARYA can be equipped with dosimeters for radiation monitoring or public alert systems.

For future forestry specialists, the meeting was an opportunity to see a real tool that already today helps to quickly identify fire hotspots and find people missing in forests.
