{"id":7292,"date":"2026-05-31T14:00:59","date_gmt":"2026-05-31T11:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zala-aero.com\/?p=7292"},"modified":"2026-05-31T14:00:59","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T11:00:59","slug":"melnicza-vojny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zala-aero.com\/en\/news\/melnicza-vojny\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00abThe Mill of War"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Major Sergei K., commander of the UAV unit, has personally destroyed around 150 pieces of enemy equipment, including dozens of tanks, self-propelled artillery pieces, towed howitzers and ammunition depots. \u00a0Read about the combat record of the commander of the ZALA \u00abLancet\u00bb UCAV crew in the latest edition of the column <a href=\"https:\/\/zala-aero.com\/en\/news\/novaya-rubrika-operatory-istorii-raschyotov-ruk-zala-lanczet-iz-pervyh-ust\/\">#operators<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His call sign is \u00abMiller\u00bb.<strong> <\/strong>Sergei began his professional journey at the Far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command School in Blagoveshchensk. After completing his studies, the newly minted lieutenant was assigned to the reconnaissance company of the Baltic Fleet's Marine Brigade. It was during his service that he completed UAV operator courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the special military operation began, Sergey was performing combat missions in Syria. His UAVs were loitering over the scorching sands, looking out for militant positions. His return to Russia brought no respite. The officer underwent training on the latest weapon \u2013 the \u00abLancet\u00bb loitering munition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abThe Lancet, while scanning for targets, corrects its trajectory in the air and hits its objective with high precision. These machines can carry a warhead of varying power \u2013 depending on the given task. The main advantage of the Lancet is its low observability. It is fast, manoeuvrable, practically silent, and difficult to detect by electronic intelligence systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company commander recalls an incident when scouts discovered a Ukrainian tank hidden under trees. The armoured vehicle was firing on our positions using an indirect trajectory from a distance of approximately six kilometres. Firing head-on from the front was risky \u2013 the tank had good armour, plus the crew had installed additional protective plating. And from the rear, the tank was shielded by a tree with a thick trunk. But there was no time to delay: the shells were landing with increasing accuracy on our positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abThe solution came unexpectedly,\u00bb Sergey recalls. \"Another tank drove up to the one that was firing and began to park next to it, and that's not a quick job. We launched two 'Lancets' at once. With the first munition, we hit the open tank. It immediately caught fire, and the ammunition inside began to detonate. The crew of the firing tank realised they had also been detected and moved out from cover to change their firing position. That's when we hit them with the second projectile!\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The adversary is cunning. He sets up false targets: damaged equipment, destroyed howitzers, old armoured personnel carriers. To the inexperienced eye, these are targets, but our scouts have learned to recognise deception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">'If the enemy wants us to detect the target, they deliberately camouflage it to be detected,' Sergey shares his experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scouts look for real targets using a variety of signs: smoke coming from a cannon when fired, caterpillar tracks, and fresh tyre tracks. Over the course of the special military operation, they have gathered a whole series of signs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of 2023, Sergey K. was awarded the Order of Courage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>According to a report in the newspaper \u00abStrazh Baltiki\u00bb from March 12, 2025, No. 18<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
