Russia will shoot down drones with an electronic gun

The latest means of defeating unmanned aerial vehicles has no analogues. Russian designers presented at an international exhibition in Moscow a compact means of electronic warfare - the REX1 gun. It is capable of hitting flying targets at a short distance.

Unmanned aircraft technology is developing rapidly, and even small quadrocopters in the hands of the enemy can pose a serious threat to both troops and civilians. Therefore, countering such a threat is becoming a top priority, Rossiyskaya Gazeta notes.

The REX 1 developed by Russian specialists can successfully suppress communication, control and data transmission channels of drones at a distance of up to 500 metres. At the same time, the radius of neutralisation of satellite navigation signals for drones of the alleged enemy reaches 2 kilometres. If the drone loses its orientation, it is forced down to the ground, where it becomes an easy prey for military personnel.

The gun has a laser to disable on-board optoelectronic devices. It can be operated continuously for 3 hours. After that, recharging is required.
