Application of ZALA AERO methane leak detection technology at gas production facilities in Bashkiria

One of the most important tasks for oil and gas companies in carrying out their operations is to take care of the environment. This is achieved by implementing the best available technologies. For example, ZALA AERO unmanned systems for detecting methane leaks are now used at the facilities of LLC Bashneft-Dobycha in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Air monitoring is performed at oil and gas treatment facilities by ZALA 421-16E GAS unmanned systems. Possible methane leaks are monitored using a laser gas analyser, as well as a camera and video camera, which allow real-time observation of the object of interest and, if necessary, an accurate map of the location of detected leaks.
In addition, unmanned systems are used to assess the condition of pipelines, reservoirs and other technical equipment, to monitor the movement of floodwaters, storm water, forest fires near area facilities.
The first stage of the work is completed and all flight data has been transferred for desk processing. Upon completion of processing, orthophotomaps, heat maps, photo and video materials, as well as a full technical report on the work performed will be handed over to the Customer.
The second stage of work is scheduled for September 2022. Thus, within one year, a full range of large-scale air monitoring of Bashneft-Dobycha's facilities will be performed.
The technology of methane leak detection using a laser gas analyser received its first application in 2018, at the same time it started pilot and operational testing on ZALA drones. Since 2021, the system of methane leakage search with the BVS has been implemented in production processes at the facilities of major companies in the oil and gas production industry.
It is important to note that in 2021, major oil companies were mainly interested in the technology to control infrastructure at oil fields. In 2022, the technology has already found its development and application at gas production and transportation facilities in Novy Urengoy.
