A drone aeroplane was urgently launched into the sky over the Sea of Okhotsk today. It used a loudspeaker to warn amateur fishermen about the dangers of being on the ice.
This method of response was used for the first time this year by the specialists of the Sakhalin Civil Defence and Emergency Situations Agency due to the extreme threat of coastal ice and landfast ice breakup. The danger arose off the south-east coast of Sakhalin from Cape Svobodny to Starodubskoye village.
About 300 amateur fishermen are now in the danger zone. At the moment there is a rescue operation of 8 fishermen in Makarovsky district, who found themselves on a broken ice floe. Of them 3 are women.
