The ZALA Z-16 reconnaissance UAV of the 6th Special Forces Battalion of the «West» Group of Troops is working 24/7. «A single flight involves dozens of decisions,» the drone pilots joke, and they are very proud of their work, especially the results. “One direct hit and a breach within the target’s perimeter have been recorded,” reports the UAV calculation chief on the radio to the monitor. “Complete destruction of the structure is observed. The target has been hit; further fire is not required.”.
Setting aside the radio, the ZALA Z-16 radar operator with the call sign «Ham» increased the zoom of the drone's 60x camera and examined in detail the stretch of river where the Nazis had just built a bridge. Upon seeing the pristine purity of the water, «Ham» ordered the UAV equipment to prepare the drone for the next mission.
This time, the Hama drone acted as a means of objectively monitoring the target’s defeat. However, earlier, it was its pilot who revealed the preparations of the Ukrainian units for the crossing. So, our drone pilots« contribution to this success was decisive.
Performing a flight along a pre-programmed route, this device is capable of penetrating deep into the enemy’s rear, relying on the capabilities of the inertial navigation system. During such an autonomous reconnaissance flight, it ZALA continuously records new data, which the operator updates immediately as soon as the drone returns to the signal reception zone.
«The operator, while conducting reconnaissance, carefully examines the terrain in the areas of concentration or permanent deployment of the enemy,» notes Kham. “During observation along the lines and areas, in the so-called area of special attention, he should note any changes that may be related to the activities of the troops.”.
These may be changes in the terrain due to the construction of new fortifications (shelters for personnel and equipment, new positions for artillery units, and so on), and the creation of new routes in wooded areas. The dust and smoke on the roads and in the forest belts may already be a sign that the enemy units are beginning to move closer to the front line.
«Properly organized continuous monitoring allows not only to »sketch out” individual well-camouflaged targets, but also to anticipate future actions against us, especially in those areas where the activity of the enemy’s forces and resources increases manifold,” notes the head of the reconnaissance UAV’s calculation unit.
Meanwhile, the assembly of the next «bird» is already underway in the forest area. The main weapon carried on the ZALA Z-16 is a HD camera with a sixty-fold magnification. In addition to the optical system, it is equipped with a thermal imager. During its commissioning, the drone ZALA has inflicted damage on hundreds of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces« equipment, many of which are Western-made models. But most importantly, the data collected and transmitted to command in a timely manner by these »birds« have repeatedly helped to disrupt major operations and sabotage attempts by the Kiev regime's formations.
