ZALA Z-16 identifies Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Dobropillia sector
The «Centre» military group is finishing off encircled Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the south-west of Konstantinovka, isolating Krasny Liman and stabilising the front line near Slavyansk. A crew from the 14th Artillery Brigade of the 51st Army is monitoring the situation in the Dobropillia sector from the air using ZALA Z-16 reconnaissance UAVs. At times, the enemy reveals its own positions.
«There was a memorable incident. An enemy "Baba Yaga" [helicopter] flew over and dropped provisions. The infantry approached, collected the "package", and distributed the parcels to neighbouring dugouts. Thanks to them, we located more enemy personnel. The entire landing was successfully hit by artillery fire,» said deputy platoon commander with the call sign 'Elkhim'.According to the soldiers, the role of the ZALA aerial reconnaissance unit on the front line is not only to promptly identify Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment and positions, but also to effectively counter electronic warfare systems and enemy interceptor aircraft using on-board intelligent systems.
«The system detects through its "peephole" that an enemy UAV is approaching and begins an evasive manoeuvre — it dives sharply downwards. It loses altitude and starts manoeuvring to the right and left, picking up speed. It also has its own scanner for detecting enemy UAV frequencies. In other words, it even notices when one is approaching, without actually seeing it,» explained Andrei Sentsov, operator of the ZALA system.
